There's a thrilling, online-only election for the King Conservation District, the people we trust to keep our water clean, trees on not-fire, and dirt un-dirty. With RFK Jr and EPA abandoning us to the unvaccinated, chemically-polluted dogs, you'd think there'd be more hullabaloo about them. But nobody knows who the hell these people are. We know you rely on The Stranger to think your election thoughts for you, but this time we're gonna let you sink or swim.
Did you know yesterday was the 107th anniversary of the 1919 Seattle general strike? Twenty percent of the population participated, but it had no clear goals and caved within days. With talk of another general strike to trip Trump mid-goosestep, it's a cautionary tale. As proof time is a spiral, the coward Mayor sicced cops and federal troops on the city, resigned in shame, and made a career grifting about the evils of organized labor.
The denizens of Denny Blaine have incorporated as a non-profit to jump cheeks-first into the legal struggle over the city's most beloved nude beach. The Friends of Denny Blaine (FoDB), a group representing the naked masses, is at war with Denny Blaine Park for All, a secretive cabal of the clothed few living in the massive homes near the park. The neighbors sued to shut down the park (alleging excessive jerking off), and a judge forced the city to find a solution. Coming up pretty empty, the city installed an (ugly) chain-link and trap anti-masturbation fence from. By incorporating as a non-profit, Friends of Denny Blaine can directly intervene in the suit.
Julie Kang is running for City Council and that's about the only thing she's made up her mind about. In her interview with Micah, Kang flopped around questions about police surveillance, homelessness and public safety, you know, our city's major political issues. Kang said she'd need data from all sides to come to a conclusion, which sounds wiser than it is true.
As written in newspapers that are not ours—Bob Ferguson met with the NBA Commissioner. As far as we know, the Seattle SuperSonics remain as demolished as Key Arena.
Gazing southward—three Black men have sued GEO Group, owner of the Northwest Detention Center. They allege guards "engaged in sexual assault, violent beatings and retaliation" while they were detained there. They also say that when abuse was reported to the Tacoma Police Department, police kicked them back to GEO Group, allowing the company to investigate itself, according to KING5.
Another whopper, huh?
